Taquile Island

Taquile Island is on Titicaca Lake, at 2h from Chifrón and 1h from Amantaní by boat and at 35km in the North of Puno. This is one of the biggest islands of Titicaca Lake, well known as « The Sons of Sun Island ». There, travelers will be able to climb a 520-step stairs to reach the wonderful view of Taquile Island square. Moreover, crafts of Taquile Island are registered to the UNESCO World Heritage.

Rural guest house

Visitors will stay in beautiful traditional rustic rooms, which are made with pisé and with authentic decoration. Taquile community allows single or double rooms, with a total capacity of 24 people. Sanitary fittings are to be shared, and there are shower with hot water (solar shower).

 

Typical food

Travelers will eat typical dishes from the region in rural restaurants with views on Titicaca Lake, or in host families’ kitchens.

Access from Puno:

By boat:

From Puno port : the journey lasts around 2h and goes through Uros floating islands, but also the South of Chuchito peninsula and the North of Capachica.

 

From Capachica (capital):

To reach Taquile Island, take a boat to come out from Chifrón. Please contact us before you come, ASTURS also gives information to its office at Plaza Principal Jirón Juliaca, N°229 – Capachica.

 

From Juliaca:

In Juliaca, you can take a bus to the bus terminal which is situated between Avenue Tacna and Avenue Circunvalación. The journey lasts around 40 min.
